A Homegoing Celebration for Rev. Dr. Lawrence Anthony Johnson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 will be held Saturday, February 1st, 11:00 a.m., Pastor Larry Roundtree II, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. On September 26, 1965 Rev. Dr. Lawrence Anthony Johnson was born to Hazel Lee Williams in Pahokee, Florida. Being a young mother Ms. Williams decided place her child in the care of Mr. Willie and Annie Lee Johnson. Rev. Johnson spent the first five years of his life in Pahokee, Florida. The Johnsons then move to Tampa, Florida. Where Rev. Johnson became a product of Hillsborough County School System; graduating from King Adult High School in 1984. Rev. Johnson then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for 1 year. Rev. Johnson returned to Tampa and married Angela Watson his lifetime friend on August 26, 1986. This union produced three children, Garry, Bikel (deceased) and Larenz Johnson. Rev. Johnson’s professional occupation was a truck driver a position he enjoyed for several years. However, desiring to be with his family more often he switched professions and became the Manager of Shipping and Delivery for Johnson and Johnson, Criticon. After having several jobs as a manager Rev. Johnson realized he would never be content outside of the will of God. He then decided to attend Triune Biblical University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Christian Counseling. While going through trials and tribulations of life he reached out to his wife, Angela and said, "I have heard from the Lord, the time has come for me to preach the Gospel.” After Preaching the gospel for several years, Rev. Johnson was ordained by Rev. Eddie Nunn Sr. at Macedonia Baptist Church of Zephyrhills Florida. Rev. Johnson was subsequently offered an interim pastoral position at St. John Missionary Baptist church of Arcadia, Fl. In January of 2014, Rev. Johnson was called to pastor First Bethesda Baptist Church of Albany, Ga. During his Pastoral tenure, he obtained his Masters in Christian Counseling and a year later he obtained his Doctoral Degree in Theology both from Bethany Theological College. Rev. Johnson, enjoyed traveling, fishing, football, cooking, and talking about the gospel. On his journey throughout life he has touched many lives. Always being blessed and having favor with the Lord. Rev. Johnson was preceded in death by his daughter, Bikel Johnson; mother, Hazel Lee Williams; adoptive parents, Willie and Anne Lee Johnson and brother, Clarence Johnson. He has left to cherish his fond memories with his children; Ieesha (Dominic), Garry, Larenz and Kayden Johnson; grandchildren, Samahre Styles, Javari Johnson, Navaeh Allen, Zariah Johnson, Raelyn Lynn and Troi Barnes; one brother, Charles Johnson (Mary); brothers-in-law, Gary Watson (Selecia) and Carlton Flowers (Cassandra); uncles, Peter Bowles and James Bowles; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. special friends, Sheritta Gibson, Joe Boyd and Amad Njie; his number 1 supporter and cousin, Kimberly Easy; his lifetime friend and beloved for 36 years Ms. Angela Watson Johnson. The visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
