A Graveside Celebration of Life for Ms. Jean Helen Carter of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020 will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery 4615 E. Hanna Ave. Rev. Michael Neely, of New Millenium Community Church, officiating.
Jean Carter was born March 11, 1956 in Hahira, Georgia to Thomas and the late Larvell Hall Carter. She was raised in Tampa, Florida and was a 1974 graduate of Hillsborough High School. Jean was a woman of steadfast, unwavering faith. She dedicated her life to God at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church of College Hill for many years.
In 2005, she became a member of New Millennium Community Church, where she was active in the finance committee and used her beautiful singing voice as a member of the choir. Jean was a strikingly beautiful woman who possessed an effortless sense of style, sophistication, and class. Upon meeting her, she was slightly shy, with a quiet and reserved nature. She possessed an enormous capacity for giving and for making those around her feel special and loved. Jean was sweet and kind with a warm and inviting disposition. She had a soft spot in her heart for children and she loved spending time with her family and friends. She liked to have fun; she loved to laugh, dance and sing. She had a smile that could light up a room. If you were ever in her presence and she smiled at you, revealing that one deep dimple on her left side, you could not help but to smile back. A woman of culture, she greatly enjoyed cooking, classic films, live music and art.
Though as much as she loved these things, she loved nothing more than her family. She relished in being a loving and dutiful daughter and mother. She deeply loved her mother, her father, her cousins, her friends and her daughter, Shannon. Rightfully so, Jean was proud of many accomplishments in her life, but there was nothing she was prouder of than of her daughter, Shannon. Jean will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Larvell Hall Carter. Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Legrand-Range (son-in-law, Marcel Range); her father, Thomas Carter; aunts, Lavern Riley of Valdosta, Georgia, Jean Butler of St. Petersburg, Florida and Verdie Oxford of Naylor, Georgia; a host of loving cousins, her friends and co-workers from Grow Financial Federal Credit Union.
The family and friends are asked to meet at the graveside on Saturday for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines
