A Graveside Service Mr. Solomon Bobby Johnson, Sr. “BJ” of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 will be held on Saturday, January 9th, 12:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Ave, Tampa, Florida, Pastor Martha Lee, first lady, officiating. The interment will follow.
Solomon Bobby Johnson, Sr. was born on April 8, 1938 in Gainesville, Florida, to the late Willie and Melissa Johnson. He was the youngest out of 16 children, 8 boys and 8 girls. In his early years, he matriculated in the Alachua County school system. He later moved to Tampa, FL at the age of 16. He worked at Florida Steel and started a phenomenally successful landscaping business where he worked until his retirement. He was also known for driving flashy cars, such as convertibles, corvettes, Cadillacs, Lincoln Town cars with train horns on the hood. Amongst his hobbies were fishing, singing gospel songs, reading books and the paper, fixing things with his hands, and going to see gospel singers. He was also a great cook in the kitchen and on the grill. He was also a great pool player in his younger days, they called him “King”. He was also a great boxer in his younger days, he managed some of the males in his family. He was also known to wear tailor made suits and custom-made shoes.
Mr. Johnson leaves to mourn, his wife, Leatha Allen-Johnson; children, Bobby M.L. Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Solomon “Mickey” Johnson, and Linda Jordan; stepson, Reginald L. Allen; stepdaughter, Regina V. Allen; sisters, Rutha Mae McNeal and Maude Riles; and a host of 21 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, January 8th, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the graveside, Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Ave, Tampa, Florida, on Saturday for the service. We are following the CDC guidelines. The services will be live-streamed at www.aikensfuneralhome.com website.
