A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Hazel Grant Gooden of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2020 will be held Saturday, February 8th, 2:00 p.m. at Greater Bethel M.B. Church, 1207 N. Jefferson St., Rev. Dr. Brett Snowden; Pastor Byron Pressley of First Mt. Carmel AME Church, officiating. The interment will be held in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Hazel Grant Gooden, 79, was granted her angel wings on Sunday, January 26, 2020. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at her side. Our beloved mother, sister and friend was born November 21, 1940 in Tampa, Florida. She was a H.W. Blake H.S. graduate and a member of the National Council of Women, African American History and Culture Center, and First Mt. Carmel AME Church. She was an inspiration to her family to pursue higher education and loved a party with good music. Ms. Gooden was the widow of Robert C. Gooden, Sr. and Ms. Gooden’s late parents were Nanette and Hurley Grant; late siblings were Daniel Horne and Herstree Grant. Ms. Gooden was employed by St. Joseph’s Hospital from May 28, 1973 to September 27, 1988. She carried the positions of EKG Tech, EKG Tech Supervisor and EKG Department Head during her career with St. Joseph’s Hospital. Ms. Gooden resigned as an employee in good standing with excellent commendation. Ms. Gooden relocated to Brooklyn, New York and earned the Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph College on June 5, 1991. Ms. Gooden continued her education at Fordham University Graduate School of Education, New York. She earned a Master of Science on May 22, 1993. Ms. Gooden is survived by her loving and devoted children, siblings, extended family and friends. sons, Reginald Robinson (Mychell) and Rasheed Muhammad; daughters, Jewel Gooden-Liburd (Patrick), Karla Gooden, Melanee Gooden, Lori Gooden and Marissa Townsend (Wilbert); sisters, Rose Gainey (Dennis) and Annette Bowers (Don Drummond); a host of special nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, February 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
