Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Charles Lee Wayne of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 10:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Rev. Willie Kimbrough officiating. Mr. Charles Lee Wayne, son of the late Guss and Ruthel Wayne Sr. was born on January 8, 1956, in Monroe, Louisiana. He was born into a God-fearing family with 11 siblings.

His family relocated to Oakland, CA when he was 9 years old.  He received his education at Bella Vista Elementary and Roosevelt Jr. High and graduated from Oakland High School. Charles was extremely passionate and devoted to his family.  At an incredibly early age, he was very responsible.  He had the duties of a teenager, such as watching his younger siblings and caring for the home.  His mother trusted him to always do the right thing towards his siblings.  Which he did.  It was instilled in him early to be protective.  He was an adult in a boy's body, with his large vocabulary and vastly different thought process.  Charles was very smart and had an independent nature.

He was a skilled painter and handyman.  Charles loved to paint and do repairs.  Painting for him was relaxing.  He worked on many of the high rises in the Tampa Bay Area as well as hotels.   He was an easy-going and humble man.  In his off time, he loved singing and dancing.  His favorite artist was Marvin Gaye. He favorite song was “What’s going on”.  He was interested in what was going on in the world, which is what Marvin Gaye sang about in his music.  He lived his life through music.  The depth of emotion that he would display when he sang, showed the emotional bond he had with his music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guss and Ruthel Wayne Sr.; brothers, Marshall Allen Wayne, Andre Wayne, James Wayne, Michael Wayne Sr., Gus Wayne Jr.; sisters, Donna and Wanda Wayne; nieces, Angela Wayne, and Michelle Raymond; nephew, Elijah Warren. He leaves behind to cherish his precious memories; brother, Fredrick Wayne; sisters, Beverly Wayne, Clara Jean Blueford, and Willie Ruth McPherson; aunts, Lillie Mae Murphy, and Iren Davis; nieces; Kristen Boykin and Shannon Warren; nephews, Michael Wayne Jr. (Sheila), Michael Wayne III, Nicholas Wayne, James McQuiller (Nekia), Abdul Wayne, Earl McPearson, Aaron McPhearson, Christopher Boykin, and Guss Wayne III; cousins, Jerry Edwards, Jackie Edwards, Diane Montgomery, Sonja Nelson, and Lisa Pearson. Also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
