A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Wilner Cineus of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 will be held on Friday, June 14th, 12:00 p.m. at Aikens Funeral Home Chapel, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Rev. Michael Neely, officiating. The interment will be in Orange Hill Cemetery. Wilner Cineus Chery was born in Port au Prince, Haiti on July 17, 1942 to Morel Chery and Clemence Cineus. Wilner moved to New York City, NY during the mid 1970’s where he met and married Ella Alexander Hawkins. They subsequently moved to Tampa, FL where he was a truck driver for over 20 years. Although Wilner spent the last three decades residing in the Tampa Bay area, he remained a loyal New York Yankee / Mets fan and had many baseball caps to show his allegiance. Wilner loved to travel to Haiti, Miami, Boston and Montreal to visit family and friends. He enjoyed all types of music but his favorite band was Tabou Combo.Upon retirement, Wilner took up cooking and perfected the art of preparing succulent and bountiful portions of West Indies-inspired meals for the family. There was nothing more satisfying to him than providing comfort food for everyone to enjoy. In addition to watching Yankee/Mets baseball, Wilner also enjoyed watching re-runs of “Sanford and Son” and cheering for Tiger Woods. Wilner quietly departed this life Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at home in the presence of his wife, Ella.Wilner leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his living: his wife; Ella Hawkins Cineus; a brother; Nobert Chery; his children; Micheline Chery, Josiana Chery Sagille Frantz, Naoimi Chery, Wilner Chery, Jr., Valerie Hawkins-Smith and M. Preston Hawkins; grandchildren; Marve Boisrond, Francesca Sagaille, Derrick Delva, David Delva, Ashley Marcus, Rodney Joseph, Fania Chery, Bryana Chery, Tanaya Chery, Vanessa Smith, Alex Hawkins and Amber Hawkins; his great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Thursday, June 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Friday for the service.
