A Homegoing Celebration for Deacon Samuel Ervin, Jr. of Seffner, Florida who passed away Friday, September 6, 2019, will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2:00 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church of Seffner, 6720 St. Rd 579, Seffner, Florida, Pastor Nathaniel Love, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Samuel was born February 11, 1936 in Tampa, Florida to the late Rev. Samuel Ervin, Sr. and Mrs. Estella Brown Ervin. He was educated in the schools of Hillsborough County, graduating from Middleton Senior High School. He also attended Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina. He retired from Continental Can Company, Tampa, Florida. After his retirement he became an entrepreneur, founder and owner of S&E Janitorial Service, Inc. He qualified as an MBE status with the State of Florida, Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa. He was united in holy matrimony with Esther Stancil Ervin and from that union they had two daughters. He was converted and baptized at the age of twelve, at Mt. Zion M.B. Church of Tampa, Rev. R.H. Whitaker, pastor. He became a member of New Bethel Progressive M.B. Church in 1961, under Pastor, Rev. L.R. Stancil and was ordained a deacon in 1963. He served as a Sunday school teacher, financial secretary, male youth leader (he organized a Boy Scout troop), a baseball team (New Bethel Bullets) and a member of the Brotherhood Ministry and the Gospel Chorus. He served as an effective president of the Seffner-Thonotosassa Council for community affairs for several years. His service was always available in any other capacity where there was a need. He later became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Seffner, under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Love. His favorite scripture was John 3:16 and his favorite hymn was, “What a Friend We have in Jesus”. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Yvette Ervin; sisters, Mattie Mae Ervin and Lila Joyce Ervin-McCardy; aunts, Olivia Brown-Smith and Josephine Brown; uncles, Lazarus N. Brown and W.M. Brown; and nephew, Herbert Lamar Ervin. He will be dearly missed and cherished memories will be remembered by his loving and dedicated wife of 60 years, Esther Stancil Ervin; daughter, Cynthia Yolanda Ervin; brother, Herbert Ervin; sister, Lee Etta Love, Columbia, SC; nephews, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Robert Love, Jr. (Julie) of Alexandria, VA, Rodney Love (Pilani), Columbia, SC, Hercules Stancil, Jr. (Sonja), Mulberry, FL, and Troy Stancil (Cassie), Bradley, FL; nieces, Torya McCardy Powell, Marlboro, MD, Yolanda M. Ervin, Tampa, FL, Laurea Warner (Johnny), Debbie Mitchell (Frederick), Bradley, FL and Mamie Thomas, Lakeland, FL; a host of other relatives including the legacies of: Stancil, Ervin, Warner, Nealy, White, Scurry and Brown families. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, September 20th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
