A Catholic homegoing funeral Mass for Mr. Juan “Woody” Bethel, Sr., who passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 surrounded by his wife, children and cherished family members, will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, 2:00 p.m., at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1203 N. Nebraska Ave, Father Paul Chikawe, pastor officiating. Juan was born in Tampa, Florida on November 3, 1958 to William O. Bethel, Sr. and Dalia Casellas Bethel. During his life, Juan was known for his love of knowledge, loyalty to his family, service to his country, a dedicated teacher, his talents in swimming, baseball and football, and for “telling it like it is.” He was a veteran and served in the United States Army for 16 years, and worked for Hillsborough County School Board for over 10 years as an educator. He was a graduate of Nova Southeastern University, where he received his Master’s in Educational Leadership. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Stephanie Solomon. He leaves to celebrate his life and carry forth his legacy: a loving wife, Gloria Jean Bethel; children, Juana J. Bethel, Juan G. Bethel, Jr., Julian Bethel and Juana L. Bethel; beautiful grandchildren; brother William O. Bethel, Jr; and sisters Ingrid Bethel and Janice Young; and special and devoted niece, Andrea Potter and family; he also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, colleagues and students. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, March 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
