A Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Ernestine Turner of Tampa, Florida who passed away, Monday, July 8, 2019, will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Progress Village, 8722 Progress Blvd., Rev. Dr. Samuel L. Maxwell, Senior Pastor, officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Ernestine Turner was born on June 1, 1930 in Tampa, FL to the late Mattie Williams- Lankford and the late Homer (Katie) Bell. She was married to Stanley Turner who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Ernestine Bell Turner “Honey” died peacefully in Fayetteville, Georgia at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Andrew Bell, Sr. and sister-in-law Rilla May Bell; brother-in-law, Willie B. and 3 sisters, Mary Darby, Barbara Bell and Gloria Johnson; daughters, Marilyn Bell McCray and Gwendolyn Ealy; sons-in-law, George McCray and Lawrence Ealy; and grandchildren, Renita Ealy, and George McCray III. Ernestine accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Baptist Church of Progress Village, where she served on the Senior Usher Board. She was a dedicated Christian who loved the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She graduated from the public schools of Hillsborough County in Tampa, Florida, where she began working for Morrison Cafeteria as a baker prior to working for Hillsborough County Public Schools as a school bus driver, where she retired after 22 years of service. She was a member of the "Princesonettes and the Red Hatter's". Ernestine blessed this earth with 8 children. Her children remember her as a driven mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. She is survived by children, Berthenia (Otis) Lamb, Fort Worth, TX; Robert (Loretta) Bell, Sacramento, CA; Donald (Mary Ann) Simmons, Dallas, TX; Ernest (Sylvia) Jones, Marietta, GA; Veronica Jones (Larry) Johnson, Fayetteville, GA and Michael (Sharlene) Jones, Denton, TX. 6 stepchildren, Essic Turner, Charlotte (Lawrence) Mathis, Larry Turner, Cheryl Turner, Carolyn Turner and Eugenia Turner. Ernestine loved and cherished her grandchildren, James (Jimmy) Williams, Linda Ealy, Patricia Ealy, Ernest Jones, Jr., Erin Ramsay, Michael Bell, Marilyn Goldwire, Donald Simmons, Jr., Asa Simmons, Breanna Jones, Kiara Jones, Jolisa Jones and Sydney Johnson; sisters, Minne Langston, Tampa, FL and Wilma Shivers, Los Angeles, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, good friends, Juanita Banks and Mary Reid of Tampa, FL and her goddaughter, Kathy Miller. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Monday, July 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church for the service on Tuesday.
