Brother Archie James Young, Sr.

A homegoing celebration for Brother Archie James Young, Sr. of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 will be held Saturday, June 8th, 11:00 a.m. at St. John Progressive M.B. Church, 2504 E. Chipco St., Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Sr., pastor, officiating. The interment will be held in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, June 11th at 10:00 a.m. Archie James Young, Sr. was born on August 30, 1945 to birth mother, Fairrest Dexter Rogers and reared by adopted parents, James and Elvira Young. Brother Young attended the Historical Glover Elementary School and other public schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Middleton Senior High School. As a young man pursing his endeavors, he began his pursuit at CF Chemicals in Bartow, Florida his desire was to advance, and he didn’t allow any hindrance to deter his developmental process. He enlisted in the Job Corp in Maine, then returned to Tampa securing a job with Tampa Electric Company and later retired from Hillsborough County Public Works Department. Archie enjoyed spending time with family and his favorite past time was the two “F’s” football and fishing. He looked forward to attending Lake Yale Bible Retreat each year.  He truly loved the Lord, faithfully serving on the Usher Board #1, a member of the Intercessory Prayer Group, Sunday School Class #5 and graduated from the Faith Bible Institute. Bro. Young was sat aside as a deacon and completed Deacon Training, however, being humble; he declined the position, but continued to be faithful in service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fairrest Dexter Rogers, James and Elvira Young; grandparents, Robert and Edith Dexter and brother, Bernard Rogers. He leaves to cherish his precious memories with his loving wife, Mae Alice Walker Young; son, Archie James Young, Jr., daughter, Felicia Young Evans (Roland Sr.); 4 grandchildren, Dejuan Young, Roland Evans, Jr., Taviana Evans and Toni Evans; 3 god-children, Stephanie Randolph, Rashard Freeman, Joshua Bent; 4 sisters, Gertrude Rogers of Leesburg, Florida, Phyllis Rogers of Jacksonville, Florida, Sue Elaine Hamilton-Latimer of Webster, Florida and Annie Bell Miller of  Bealsville, Florida; 3 aunts, Mary Ann Sherman of Bealsville, Florida, Edith Demeritte of Plant City, Florida, Knazilee Dexter of Bealsville, Florida; uncle, Barneswell Dexter of Bealsville, Florida; 2 sisters-in-law, Emma Rogers of Waverly, Georgia and Lillian Walker of Littleton, North Carolina; 2 brothers-in-law, Charles L. Walker, Sr. (Carrie) of Brandon, Florida and Rudolph Walker (Juanita) of Tampa, Florida; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, June 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
