Mr. Lavern McWhite was born on January 25, 1927, in Tampa, Florida.  He received his education from the public schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Middleton Sr. High School and later joined the United States Army. Mr. McWhite served valiantly and earned many commendations along the way. After retiring from the United States Army, he moved to Seattle, Washington to pursue employment with the United States Postal Service.  Lavern’s strong work ethic allowed him to become a role model and mentor. Lavern was also a very creative artist who produced beautiful paintings, and drawings. He freely shared his art work with family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Williams and Blanch Mcwhite. He played the guitar at family events, too. He is survived by his loving cousins, Thelma Shuman, Dr. Rose Yates-Lashley (Huntsville, Al.), Barbara Wiggs, Anthony Washington, Frank Logan (Washington, D.C.), Timothy Yates (Mae), Lavern Logan and Gordon family members; his best friend, Roosevelt Choice. Friends and family members are saddened by his death but they all know he has been a man that gave his love and emotional support to the world. Special thanks to his caregiver Mrs. Gladys Kanodersas and the staff at Genesis Rehab Center. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Wednesday for the service.
