Carl Edward Chester

May 20, 1939 ~ January 22, 2018 (age 78)

A homegoing celebration for Mr. Carl Edward Chester of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 will be held Friday, January 26th, 11:00 a.m. at Aikens Funeral Home, 2708 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Rev. Jimmy Horton, officiating. The interment will be in Lang Cemetery, Brooksville, Florida. Carl Edward Chester was the second child born to Willie and Julia Chester on May 20, 1939 in Brooksville, Florida. The Chester family moved to Tampa in 1941. Carl attended Don Thompson High School where he played football and was a member of their last graduating class of 1956. In 1961 Carl and Emma Williams was blessed with the birth of his only child, a son, Carlton Chester.  The following year he married Queene Hardy Chester who preceded him in death in 1997 after 35 years of marriage. Carl enjoyed cars, fishing, bowling, sports, ping pong, dominoes and playing cards. He was always a willing player at the card table at all the family reunions.  Carl, also for a short period, boxed professionally and this earned him the nickname “Boxer.” Carl was a hard worker. He was employed with Dixie Lily for a year, then went to Winn–Dixie where he stayed for eleven years. He then started with Kash n Karry as an hourly employee and moved up to a supervisor. He retired after 31 years in early 2000. In retirement Carl had two special friends, Joe White and Ethel Simpson. Joe was always assisting Carl by taking him to doctor’s appointments and checking on his wellbeing daily. Ethel was like his right hand. There was nothing Ethel would not do for Carl. She encouraged him to eat right, even when he didn’t want to. Ethel would visit him in the hospital, making sure he was getting the proper care and attention. She kept him on the straight and narrow. His parents, Willie and Julia Chester and sister Betty Lynn preceded Carl in death. Carl Chester leaves to cherish his memories with his son, Carlton Chester; granddaughter Jasmine Chester; brothers, Willie Chester (Betty), Clarence Chester, Robert Chester (Ethel), Earnest Chester Sr. (Karen); sisters, Shirley Thomas, Dorothy Franklin, Delphine Motley (Jack), Barbara Smith (Roderick); aunt, Vera Chester; nieces, Porshia Chester, Jamessa Clark (Howard), Gale Philson, Chevelle Lynn, Valerie Jenkins (Harold), Tammy N’uman (Daab), Stephanie Brown (Cory), Deborah Thomas and Michelle Lynn; nephews, Earnest Chester Jr, Reginald Chester (Deborah), Ezekiel Thomas Jr, Ferris Morgan (Lisa), Daryl Motley (Yvette), Allen Lynn (Clara), Kairi Coleman and Khalid Coleman; special friend, Pat Cooper; and a host of grand nieces, nephews and cousins. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the chapel on Friday for the service.
